WHY FAST FASHION DOESN'T SAVE YOU MONEY

We get it, sustainability on a budget is not easy… Trying to do your part for the earth isn’t always wallet friendly when there are companies like Shein, throwing clothes out there for three dollars. Along with many others, I used to think that these fifteen dollar total orders were the ones I had to make to be financially responsible and stay fashionable! What I wasn’t thinking about was the amount of these orders adding up. My five dollar shirt shrunk to half its size after the first wash, one of the tops was completely see-through, and the button popped off my pants during my first night out in them. While the quantity is there, the quality isn’t, so I ended up needing to make another purchase not long after for the newest trend that wouldn’t last.

In a consumerism culture where manufactures are producing their product as quick and as cheap as they can, the result is injustice. Not only does fast fashion often (basically always) exploit its workers, it is also disastrous for the environment. Most people that decide to make the ethical purchase thinking it’s for the benefit of the earth, often are benefiting their wallet as well. See, making a pricier purchase is an investment. If you buy one top that is high quality and timeless, you can wear it for a few years. While at the time it might seem like you’re losing money, if you buy one cheap top that only lasts a few wears at most, you're going to have to go back and make another similar purchase again and again. In the end, this will lose you money – we’re playing the long game here ladies.

Just something for you to think about when shopping! Remember that the things we have are gifts. The earth has paid a price for everything in front of us; your dinner tonight, the dresser in your room, those new jeans, they came from somewhere, from someone, from something, so have a heart of gratitude and eyes to see the big picture!

All love,

Michaela
